"...and in other news..."

I know other people must think this - the "news" on TV is chaotic. There is always some new shocking story, but it only stays on the news until the next new shocking story happens, then the old one seems to disappear.

For weeks, the news was about Michael Devlin (the guy who kidnapped the kids).

He was on the news every single day, but then all of a sudden news of him was replaced by news of the crazy astronaut whore who wore diapers and wanted to kill another astronaut over a guy (Lisa Nowak).

I didn't see any top stories of Michael Devlin anymore, it was of Lisa Nowak then. It was like all attention was focused on her.

Then, as quickly as the news focused on her, it switched to Anna Nicole Smith. I was a big fan of hers. Of course, as soon as stories of her death started coming out, the astronaut chick disappeared off the front pages of the news medias.

It seems like news stories change as quickly and easily as one changes the channel on TV.
People have a short attention span. They focus on what is shown to them. They act like they care, like the news is important to them.

But is it? Do they really care? When the next new "news of the day" comes out, will they remember what they were even watching the day before? When something new comes out, the media sometimes seems to just drop whatever it was they were covering before in a rush to cover the new news story.

I can only assume they feel no one cares about the "old" news anymore. Personally, I still wonder what happens with the old stories. They drop off TV and the big news web sites, requiring me to search other means of finding out information.

I'm still wondering what happened to that girl that disappeared in Aruba. Her name was Natalee Holloway. Does anyone remember her?

What about that that intern that got killed? Her name was Chandra Levy. Does anyone remember her?

When those stories were new, they were on TV every day, and the front page of other forms of media (print and web). But, when the next flavor of the day news story came out, they disappeared from the news. Are those situations resolved? Natalee is still missing, and Chandra's murder is still unsolved. I haven't heard any updates on either of their cases.

It doesn't matter I guess. Even with Anna Nicole, she will be front page material until the "next big thing" happens, then she may be forgotten as well.

I won't forget her.

Keith Urban vs. Keith Urban

i just saw this on MSNBC.com
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17010525/

this is some of the article:

"NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Keith Urban, the country singer, has filed a lawsuit against Keith Urban, the painter from New Jersey, claiming the painter's Web site violates federal trademark laws.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court, says Keith D. Urban of Wayne, N.J., is using his keithurban.com domain in a deceptive manner and for commercial purposes.

The Web site includes the statement: '"You have reached the site of Keith Urban. To those who don't know, oil painting is one of my hobbies." It then directs viewers to a gallery of paintings and offers a limited edition of prints for sale.

Urban (whose Web address is keithurban.net) argues that the New Jersey man is misleading people into believing the Web site belongs to him and is selling merchandise as if it were produced or endorsed by him."

KeithUrban.com, the Painter's site, was registered back in May of 1999. before the Singer's site, and most likely before anyone knew who the Singer was. in fact, i NEVER heard of the singer Keith Urban until i read the story that he was suing someone that had the same name as him.

there have been other situations like this, such as when the Nissan car company sued someone who had been running a site with their family name, Nissan.

retarded judge rules web links are illegal

from the story: "A court in Dallas, Texas has found a website operator liable for copyright infringement because his site linked to an 'audio webcast' without permission. Observers have criticised the judge for failing to understand the internet."

the story is here: http://www.out-law.com/page-7686

in short:
- Party A puts files up on their web site and makes them public
- Party B links to file
- Party A sues Party B for linking to files
- judge, who doesn't understand how things work, rules that *copyright infringement* took place.

i don't know if the judgment will stand. if it does, i dont know how it could ever be enforced with other sites.

robbery update

a few days ago, i posted about a robbery i was the victim of. after taking all my money and cell phone, the robbers used my cell phone to rob a neighboring pizza store. as per the police request, i left my cell phone on for a week after the robbery.

my cell phone company recorded all of the calls they made, and using reverse lookup, several addresses were found of the places that were called. using this information, the police made an arrest. i'm still waiting to hear from a detective if there is anything more i need to do with the case.

someone from Webster University interviewed me, and the interview was printed in their local paper. you can read the article HERE.

the local Channel 4 news ran a story on the mine and another robbery, you can read the story HERE.

i must have the best fucking luck ever

Thursday night after i made a pizza delivery, two black guys in their mid 20s surrounded me. one pulled out a small, silver-ish hand gun, and demanded money. the other grabbed me from behind and started pulling stuff out of my pockets.

i told them they could have all my cash, but i wanted my wallet back because of the pictures of my daughter and my family. i told them this repeatedly, and eventually they gave the wallet back, sans money.

they then told me to run back to my car, or they'd shoot me.

i lost over a hundred dollars and my cell phone. now they're using the cell phone to call other pizza places to try and rob them.
