"...and in other news..."

I know other people must think this - the "news" on TV is chaotic. There is always some new shocking story, but it only stays on the news until the next new shocking story happens, then the old one seems to disappear.

For weeks, the news was about Michael Devlin (the guy who kidnapped the kids).

He was on the news every single day, but then all of a sudden news of him was replaced by news of the crazy astronaut whore who wore diapers and wanted to kill another astronaut over a guy (Lisa Nowak).

I didn't see any top stories of Michael Devlin anymore, it was of Lisa Nowak then. It was like all attention was focused on her.

Then, as quickly as the news focused on her, it switched to Anna Nicole Smith. I was a big fan of hers. Of course, as soon as stories of her death started coming out, the astronaut chick disappeared off the front pages of the news medias.

It seems like news stories change as quickly and easily as one changes the channel on TV.
People have a short attention span. They focus on what is shown to them. They act like they care, like the news is important to them.

But is it? Do they really care? When the next new "news of the day" comes out, will they remember what they were even watching the day before? When something new comes out, the media sometimes seems to just drop whatever it was they were covering before in a rush to cover the new news story.

I can only assume they feel no one cares about the "old" news anymore. Personally, I still wonder what happens with the old stories. They drop off TV and the big news web sites, requiring me to search other means of finding out information.

I'm still wondering what happened to that girl that disappeared in Aruba. Her name was Natalee Holloway. Does anyone remember her?

What about that that intern that got killed? Her name was Chandra Levy. Does anyone remember her?

When those stories were new, they were on TV every day, and the front page of other forms of media (print and web). But, when the next flavor of the day news story came out, they disappeared from the news. Are those situations resolved? Natalee is still missing, and Chandra's murder is still unsolved. I haven't heard any updates on either of their cases.

It doesn't matter I guess. Even with Anna Nicole, she will be front page material until the "next big thing" happens, then she may be forgotten as well.

I won't forget her.
