Korgoth of Barbaria

i dont have cable or satellite. i think the last time i had cable was in the 1990s.

every now and then, i do get to watch cable and/or satellite at a friend or relative's house.

stuff on cable for the most part doesn't hold my interest. i like watching news programs (Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, etc). TechTV use to be cool, with all their video game shows and stuff, but after the merger with G4, it seems like everytime i turn it on, all they are showing is more anime or another episode of "The Man Show".

something i saw recently really caught my attention. it was called "Korgoth of Barbaria". it is an ultra-violent cartoon shown on "adult swim". while flipping through channels one night, a "TV-MA" warning caught my attention. what followed was some weird humor, interesting animation, and over the top gore and violence. what was also there, was an actually plot and story to the show.

from Wikipedia:
"Korgoth of Barbaria is an American animated television series created by Aaron Springer, the storyboard artist of SpongeBob SquarePants. The pilot episode first aired in the United States on June 3, 2006 at 12:30 AM (EST) on Adult Swim. On June 18th, Adult Swim ran a bumper announcing Korgoth was officially picked up as a series."

from IMDB:
"Have you ever been to an animation film festival? Imagine one of the funniest of the violent independent animations you've seen, fill it full of gag humor like you might see on Futurama, apply a mini-epic plot, add copious amounts of heavy metal, and you've got Korgoth of Barbaria."

updated site layout

i went through and updated most of the pages on my site. i moved the pages from static files on my server to part of the MySQL database accessed through WordPress.

it should make it easier for me to update stuff, plus all menus should auto-update with any layout i go with. in fact, one of the most noticable changes is the new menu system on the left of the main page. it only shows 1 level deep in the virtual directory structure, but clicking any page link that has more pages linked under it should show a secondary menu.

the only side effect from this is the fact all the pages will have a current post date on them, instead of when they were really written. so the date may be off by 10 years on some articles!

Nintendo DS Web Browser demo

The Opera web browser is soon coming out for the Nintendo DS (it's already out in Japan i believe)

there is a video hosted on YouTube where someone gives a demonstration of how the browser works.

you can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR2yfhBSvR0

the reviewer points out some of the flaws of the browser.

the biggest is probably the load times. supposedly it takes a long time to load any site. it makes your broadband connection slower than dial up.

another issue is the lack of Flash support.

misc site updates

over the past few days i've been making some updates to the site.

i've been struggling with the decision of staying with the current template i've made for my site, or porting the entire thing over into the WordPress database.

obviously, having things in the WordPress database may make things easier to manage - but i'm not sure if im ready yet to give up the standard file and directory structure i've grown use to over the past 10 years of having a web site.

regardless, i've been playing with how things look. i've been messing with my CSS and layout to see if i can give a site a fresh look, and maybe even come across a style i may want to try to convert into a WordPress theme. i've been playing with various pre-made WordPress themes as well.

"Frets on Fire is a game of musical skill and fast fingers. The aim of the game is to play guitar with the keyboard as accurately as possible."

It uses 3D accelerated OpenGL, and is available for Windows and Linux. It contains 3 songs.

i read about it from the assembly.org site web site, and at Slashdot.
