uTorrent, a new and cool BitTorrent client

the uTorrent client was recently updated (or “µTorrent”, as it’s really called).

uTorrent is like many other BitTorrent clients, except for a few notable things. while trying to copy the features and look of Azureus (the most popular BitTorrent client) its is able to use significantly less resources.

while Azureus requires that the Java runtime enviroment and itself both be installed, uTorrent is a native Windows application, and doesn’t require anything else installed. as of version 1.2, uTorrent is just 105K total in size. typical ram usage is around 6 megs or less. Azureus would sometimes take up 64-80 megs of ram, even when on no torrents!

you can get uTorrent here: http://www.utorrent.com/

cool new community / p2p app

there is a program out called imeem that a lot of people might be interested in.

first off, its a community-like app, with buddy lists, instant message chatting, blogs, member groups, online photo albums, etc.

second, its also a file-sharing app. you can basically give friends access to certain files on your system.

check it out! http://www.imeem.com/

promising new p2p software

version 0.21 of the new eXeem software was just released. its a p2p network application based on the greatness of BitTorrent.

eXeem kinda works like Kazaa. you connect to a network and search files. Kazaa never checked or verified files, so you’d end up with a lot of corrupted files. since its based on bittorrent, files found with eXeem pass a hash check to verify they are good.

while its still new, and the network is small, its growing fast.

Shareaza 2.0 Released

Shareaza 2.0 is out.

its a program that lets you search for files on the Gnutella, eDonkey, and “Gnutella 2″ network.

it also acts as a BitTorrent client.

with the 2.0 release, Shareaza is released under the GPL, which means it will always be free and open source.

you can get Shareaza here:
shareaza.com

you can also download its source code (seems to be written in C++)

really cool BitTorrent program

its called “Azureus” - which is the name of some frog or something.

basically, its the best BitTorrent program i’ve used. it’s worked better for me than ‘ABC,’ BT++, and the single-file clients (official and shad0ws). i liked it so much, i even donated a couple of bucks to the author.

it’s Java based, and runs in just about any OS i believe. and for Windows users, don’t let the Java part scare you it doesn’t look or feel like a Java app (like LimeWire), it “feels” like a native Windows app.

you can get Azureus here:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

possible update

im hoping to have a BitTorrent section on here, including a list of BitTorrent clients.

if you are unfamiliar with BitTorrent, check out the Official Site and read some of the information such as the Introduction and FAQ.

basically, BitTorrent is a neat program/protocol for sharing files and bandwidth.

blah

i feel like i should be updating this more, but i have no clue what to put here.

wait! i know… site updates! check the Menu on the left side for a Checkers game and strange Facts… if you know some of the “facts” on there are bullshit, e-mail me and tell me which ones are false. also, feel free to email me some new “facts” if you know they are real.

also, don’t forget to check out XoloX. since Morpheus just relased a “new” version of their software (which isnt an upgrade of their old one, which stopped working and they never fixed) - and the program can only connect to Gnutella now, XoloX is still a better choice for the gnutella network.

XoloX 1.15 Patch

I have made a patch program that updates XoloX 1.12 to 1.15. It’s a lot smaller than downloading a new EXE that I posted yesterday.

You can grab it HERE (99k).

You just need to have XoloX 1.12 installed. Run the patch program, and it will update XoloX to 1.15.
