Flock 1.0.1

Some time ago, I made a post about a new browser called “Flock”.

Flock is a “social browser” built on Firefox. It has a new/different interface than Firefox, and several integrated buttons and shortcuts to many popular social and “Web 2.0″ sites such as Blogger, Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, and del.icio.us.

Flock has been in beta for a long time (I first posted about it over 2 years ago), but it has now reached a “final” state.

Visit Flock.com to download it now!

MySpace… back in 2001?

Since Gmail started offering IMAP access, that has allowed me to link it to my other email accounts and dump all my messages going back to 1999 on their service (I’ve lost just about all my email from before 1999).

After dumping all my email to Gmail’s servers, it’s filters picked up some “new” messages that had “myspace.com” in their header. It seems like I got some messages from “MySpace.com” back in January 2001.

Apparently I joined MySpace around 7 years ago.

Well, while it was the site “myspace.com”, it was an online file storage thing. Not the social site it is now.

My old myspace.com account was purged before the domain and site changed over.

The signature on the e-mails I got said this:

Thank you,
David R. Stansberry
Customer Support Manager, myspace.com

an anti-Flock site is out already

someone recently pointed out an anti-Flock web site to me.

Flock is a new browser based on Firefox. it has things built in though like support for posting to various blog sites.

while it may make it easier for anyone to become part of the world of blogging, some people dont really think its that great of a program.

first off, the browser itself is a fork of Firefox. instead of building extensions to improve Firefox, they are instead trying to make their work totally seperate. the functionality of their browser only exists in their browser, and it cant be used as a replacement to Firefox because it will be based on older code along with not being compatible with all Firefox extensions or most Themes.

the second issue with Flock that some people have is that it would make things too easy for anyone to start posting stuff. i guess some feel that would cheapen the internet in some way.

anyway, you can read some Flock rants here: http://flocksucks.wordpress.com/

Flock, a new browser

a new web browser has recently been released.

it’s called Flock, and its based on Firefox.

it’s not just another Firefox skin or Gecko based browser (the Firefox HTML rendering engine) - it’s a whole new browsing experience for those who like taking part in online communities.

first off, it’s Bookmark system has been replaced with the online bookmark site del.icio.us. So everytime you bookmark a site while using the browser, the link is shared and made public. that also means your bookmarks are stored remotely, so they can be viewed from any computer on the internet.

second, it has built in support for multiple blog sites. WordPress and Blogger are some of the common sites Flock supports. so while browsing the net with Flock, you can easily post to your blog.

since its based on Firefox, Flock has the ability to be improved through its Extension system.

Flock is free, and you can get it here: http://www.flock.com/

online bookmarks

i dont know if there is any real use from this, but it is still kinda interesting.

it’s an online bookmarks site. any bookmark you add is viewable by others, and you can view others’ bookmarks as well. the site keeps track of who bookmarks what, and will show you how many other people have bookmarked the same site as you.

it even gives a list of the some of the most common bookmarked sites!

you can view the site here:
http://del.icio.us/

you can also view my bookmarks here:

Opera is now free, totally.

Opera is now available totally free. You could always use it free, but there would be ad banners on the main window. Now the free version doesnt have ads.

http://www.opera.com/

For those who don’t know about it, Opera is a web browser like Internet Explorer, Apple’s Safari, or Mozilla Firefox.

You can read about why its free here: http://www.opera.com/free/
