This probably doesn’t mean much, since Foxy’s is now GONE.
In its place is Zen, which serves Thai and Japanese food.

The dogs are dandy, but the gyros are grand at Foxy’s

If you want a good hot dog, Foxy’s Red Hots in Crestwood serves a darn good Chicago-style doggy. And if you want a truly great gyro, the Greek owner-chef of Foxy’s prepares one of the best examples of these Greek sandwiches that my friend Nancy and I have ever eaten.
Not the easiest place to find, Foxy’s is located in a strip center across from Crestwood Plaza, near Aldi’s, in a location once occupied by an O.T. Hodge Chili Parlor.
While the dogs are dandy, the gyros are grand. The pita bread is loaded with tender lamb dressed in a delightful cucumber sauce and topped with tomatoes and onion (regularly $3.99, ours was on sale for $2.99). The gyro had prompted a reader to contact the food editor with a recommendation for a takeout review; whoever you are, great tip!
Back to the dog pound: There are plenty of canines in this kennel. Nancy and I shared the menu lead-off Foxy Dog ($2.29); it’s a 2-ounce pup embellished with mustard, relish, onion, tomatoes, pickles and these nifty little “sport peppers” that pack a hot little punch.
Other hot-dog offerings include the Fire Dog, Fox Cheese Dog, Philly Dog, Big Foxy Dog (a quarter-pound), Reuben Dog, Corn Dog and, of course, a Chili Cheese Dog.
There are also dogs with less descriptive names: a Kathey Dog, which comes with cheese, brown mustard, bacon and a pickle, and a Charlie Dog, with sauerkraut, brown mustard, hot peppers and pickle.
We also tried the Chicago Hot Tamale with Chili ($1.99), but found the tamale too cornmealy and the chili bland at best.
The Greek owner, Jamik Kamarov, and his wife are striving to build a niche for themselves somewhat off the beaten path. They also offer a menu labeled Inter-Kebab, specializing in modestly priced meat and fish kebabs accompanied by fresh vegetables and rice, and a catering-only Japanese menu. (Kamarov is also a sushi chef who has worked for Drunken Fish.)
But on the hot-dog side: Nice people, good dogs and great gyros. Foxy’s is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
