Mozilla Firefox

I prefer Firefox over Internet Explorer for several reasons (yes, even over IE7).

When I first used Firefox (at the time it was called “Phoenix”), not having pop up windows forced on to me was a BIG plus.

I also feel like I’m not at the mercy of the web designer when I’m browsing the web any more.
My browser window wont resize itself because of some stupid JavaScript. It wont shake, my status bar wont display some stupid text scroll, and I wont lose functionality just because someone felt they should disable my right click button.

I love the tabbed interface, the skins, and the cross-platform compatibility. I’ve used Firefox in Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It works pretty much the same in each OS. I like being able to switch systems like that and not have to give up one of my favorite programs.

I love how it’s kept up to date with standards and features.

I love not having to worry about some exploit or ActiveX script causing trouble on my system.

Taken from “down1nit” on the Something Awful Forum as to why he feels people shouldn’t use IE:

  • Harmful “webmasters” are finding and integrating new exploits 24/7/365. Windows Update will never end.
  • Installing/Restarting said windowsupdate hotfixes will only increase the bloat of the windows 98/ME/2K/XP family line.
  • IE has been using the same core internals since version 4.0 (possibly earlier). It’s old and busted.
  • IE has no features.
  • Pop-Up windows
  • The rest of the Internet hates you, you are mocked by SA
  • The next iteneration of IE will not be a free application. IE6 is not being developed AT ALL. It’s officially over with. No more upgrades. Internet Explorer is done as of version 6.
  • PNG, CSS 1/2/2.1/3, XHTML 1.1 is improperly supported. (CSS and PNG were developed about a decade ago)
  • Websites that take advantage of IE’s faults: No-Right-Click scripts, Fixed size pop-ups, Microsoft’s buggy JVM.
  • Installing the browser requires hours of initial updates upon a fresh install.
  • Other browsers which have massive amounts of support and freely available help as opposed to MS’s nutty knowledge-base of irrelevancy.
