Remove Shortcut Arrows
« on: May 04, 2009, 18:57 »
I downloaded XdN Tweaker for the same reasons I always used to download TweakUI -- so I could get rid of the shortcut arrows on icons.  I was amazed that you didn't offer that in XdN Tweaker... only offered to remove the text "shortcut to".

Please add this function.  I'm using Windows 7 RC (build 7100).  More tweaks for Win7 would be great... wish I could offer more suggestions but I'm just learning Win7 myself right now.
Thanks.

There ...

http://xdntweaker.com/

0.9.1.6
May 4th, 2009

- New tweak: Remove the arrow overlay on Shortcuts. Under Windows Vista
and Windows 7, you can also use the XP-style arrow overlay. This is
  under the "Icon Appearance" option.
- Updated some text on things that said Vista but worked on Win7 as well.
- Updated some text on things that said IE7 but worked on IE8 as well.
- Updated look of Update page and links.

I just downloaded XdN Tweaker and love it..... except.

With Vista XP 2 and IE 8 when I click on Icon Appearance and remove the overlay my screen places a black square over the bottom left corner of the desktop icons that windows placed there (IE, Outlook, Acronis, etc.). If I copied a file to the desktop then this icon still has the shortcut arrow showing and no black overlay.

Sounds like a bug??

Thanks

Sounds like an issue with the icon cache.

You can try this temporary method of rebuilding icons (Vista/2k8/Win7)

http://xenomorph.net/files/RebuildIcons_0.0.0.1.zip

It's a batch file that deletes the cache and changes color mode, forcing Windows to rebuild stuff.
Avast on my system says it's a trojan (because its made with a BAT2EXE program), so I have to pause my virus scanner to run it.

Let me know if that helps.
